These Man made Caves of Nottingham were once almost lost forever when the modern Broad Marsh Shopping Centre was built above them in the late 1960’s but thanks to local voluntary groups, the Caves were thankfully saved and are now a popular tourist attraction.
The Caves which housed the only underground Tannery in Britain were also inhabited by many poor families from at least the 17th century until 1845 the overcrowding and the very poor sanitation made the perfect breeding ground for disease such as Cholera, Tuberculosis and Smallpox which of course many a poor soul lost their lives to.
The Caves were even used as Air Raid shelters to protect many during the bombing attacks of the Second World War and holes were dug here to supply the sand used in the sandbags that helped to protect the City of Nottingham during this period.
As you can imagine these Caves are steeped in emotion and history full to the brim, so it should come as no surprise that the Nottingham Caves are said to harbor a plethora of Ghostly Activity with varying phenomena including Poltergeist, audible voices, noises and footsteps.
Lights are seen here with the naked eye and are a regular occurrence in this fascinating location as well as stone throwing poltergeist activity.
